Time Machine is a free built-in backup software which copies Mac disk contents to external storage. While I was doing different experiments on my MacBook, I always knew that I can restore the contents of my MacBook to the working state because I have made backups with the Time Machine. It should be noted that CCC takes up more space than Time Machine does in keeping old and deleted items. A very short time to spend backing up one's stuff. Cloning my Home folder used to take approximately 60 seconds – give or take, naturally, according to how much work was done on the folder – and now takes about 30 seconds this includes using SafetyNet. In addition, I have found that CCC is now much faster than it was. So it is very easy to see and access such documents. Clearly, CCC transfers all such documents to that special folder, and then goes about backing up in its usual manner. One simply has a folder – date-named accordingly – with the full documents that are old/modified or deleted. The result is an interface that is easier to fathom than that of Time Machine. I now use the SafetyNet feature for that task. Part of my backup strategy has been to clone my Home folder when shutting down each evening. Since the report that CCC is capable of a Time Machine type of backup, I have given it a try. That's what I call NICE - bordering on sweet. There can even be other (non-related) files on the destination disk/clone which will not be deleted. This does not affect the clone the clone is - or, more correctly, behaves as - a true clone. When turned on, this feature retains deleted files and older versions of modified files in a special location. So perhaps some of you are not aware of this ability in CCC to do such 'time' back-ups. The feature, therefore, isn't new only my awareness of it is. In the latest version (v4.x) of CCC, it is called 'SafetyNet' in v3.x, it was 'Archiving'. It has a feature, which can be turned on or off, which does a TM-like back-up – at the same time that it is actually cloning. I have just discovered that CCC does both. You can, therefore, go back in time and find something that - under other circumstances - was lost forever. It backs up your stuff, and saves copies of deleted files and older versions of files that have been modified. TM does something different and differently. So you have a backup of all your stuff on a disc that is bootable. In the case of your start-up disk, this clone can be made bootable. That can be a single file, folder, or your start-up disk. CCC makes an exact duplicate/copy – a clone – of something. We “all know” the difference between what CCC does and what Time Machine (TM) does.
